A quotation from Fénelon

God bears with imperfect beings, even when they resist his goodness. We ought to imitate this merciful patience and endurance. It is only imperfection that complains of what is imperfect. The more perfect we are the more gentle and quiet we become towards the defects of others.

François Fénelon (1651-1715) French Catholic archbishop, theologian, poet, writer [François de Salignac de la Mothe-Fénelon]
Letter (1710-10-11) to Duchess de Montemart

A quotation from Judith Martin

Allowing an unimportant mistake to pass without a comment is a wonderful social grace […] Children who have the habit of constantly correcting should be stopped before they grow up to drive spouses and everyone else crazy by interrupting stories to say, “No, dear — it was Tuesday, not Wednesday.”

Judith Martin (b. 1938) American author, journalist, etiquette expert [a.k.a. Miss Manners]
(Attributed)

@Geri

I wish people would rally around concepts like #kindness and #forbearance, rather than things like flags, nations, teams, brands, honor, loyalty, blood, family, culture, ethnicity, gender, age, sexuality. These things divide us.

We need a #culture of #love, #kindness, #compassion, #inclusion, #forgiveness, #justice, #patience, #empathy, #forbearance.

I know no stronger alternative.

Somedays, I need to repeat to myself like a mantra that not every post on the Internet that is offensive actually requires a response from *me*. #compassion #frugality #forbearance
Hey just want to clear something up because I’m seeing a lot of panic around student loans and wage garnishment, and I think some of it is coming from misinformation (probably amplified by some fearmongering voices on the far left 😬).
👉 If you're NOT in default on your federal student loans, you are not at risk of wage garnishment or aggressive collections.
Default means you've gone 270+ days without a payment, so unless that’s you, this does not apply.
Most people I know (and I’m guessing many of you too) are on Income-Driven Repayment (IDR) plans, possibly even with $0 payments due, and those are totally fine. I'm on one myself — low interest, paused payments, and fully in good standing. No collections, no threats, no drama.
What’s actually happening:
🔹 Starting May 5, 2025, the Department of Education is resuming collections — but only on loans that are in DEFAULT.
🔹 That could include things like wage garnishment, but only for people who haven’t made a payment in nearly a year.
🔹 Official source here: https://www.ed.gov/about/news/press-release/us-department-of-education-begin-federal-student-loan-collections-other-actions-help-borrowers-get-back-repayment
If you're unsure, log in at studentaid.gov and check your status. If you’re on an IDR plan and in good standing, you're fine. Don’t let the noise mess with your peace of mind.
Stay informed, and don’t let the propaganda (left or right) run your life
💙

U.S. Department of Education to Begin Federal Student Loan Collections, Other Actions to Help Borrowers Get Back into Repayment

The U.S. Department of Education announced its Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA) will resume collections of its defaulted federal student loan portfolio on Monday, May 5th. The Department has not collected on defaulted loans since March 2020.

In our #education system, we urgently need the “education of the #heart”. One of the most frightening realizations from the analysis of the public school system in Germany (probably not only there) is that we have largely abandoned there #compassion, #sincerity, #courage, #patience and #forbearance, or simply #kindness.
