Tonight I took kiddo to a Christmas carols event at #Magdeburg's biggest football stadium (that's soccer for you non-European folks). It was our first time joining 25,000+ other singers for this event. The whole stadium was lit by candles (available for a donation), and we sang 17 German Christmas classics, the Magdeburg song, and the anthem of the local football club FCM, accompanied by a choir and a band. It was an interesting mix: the event was co-hosted by the city's churches, so the Protestant and Catholic bishops gave a very brief sermon together. Afterwards, the crowd did a Mexican wave with candles. 😅 The mayor and the minister-president gave brief speeches, and an actor told a few jokes. Dunno if we'll go again next year, but it was a lovely experience.
