Not only am I enough of a geek to have scripts that use pandoc, Python, and bash to assemble a pub songbook in epub format (a pub epub, as it were), now those scripts can check which song files are unknown to git and put them in a "New songs this edition" list at the front.

We've had a couple of rehearsals for the Easterley gig (that's Emily Eastwood and me singing unaccompanied folk songs in harmony) at Nether Edge Folk Club in Sheffield on the 28th of this month.

Good news: We still know all the songs
News: After months of not singing because of extensive dental work, my singing stamina isn't what it should be. I need more practice!

So tomorrow night, I will *definitely* be streaming folk songs on YouTube. Just me and #LoopyPro, as per usual.

The #TOTP pop picker aparters will just have to do without me.

Utah State University: USU Libraries Launches ‘Intermountain Song Trails’ to Preserve Generational Music Memories. “Led by Joe Kinzer, community & oral history archivist and folklore curator in the Fife Folklore Archives, the project seeks to preserve memory-based songs that span generations — such as lullabies, work songs, cowboy ballads and church or scouting traditions.”

niche post incoming, but I was thinking of 2026 and one thing I'd love to do with is to come up with a concert of old Romanian and klezmer music from WWI-era NYC that I come across in my research. anyhow it got me thinking of this weird song that comes up in a few contexts, Hai la Raci, recorded here by Simon Paskal, a NY Yiddish recording artist who also recorded some Romanian discs.
