Two Rebels Ceilidh Song Books just arrived!

The books were made by the Bo'ness Rebels Literary Society (1948-76), a nationalist group with links to the Scottish Folk Revival and Literary Renaissance.

Left one is the first book, c.1953, containing a bunch of older and newer songs.

Right one is from 1967, all contemporary songs. Its cover depicts Hugh MacDiarmid as a very angry thistle (c.f. image 2 for accuracy).

Happy 105th birthday to Hamish Henderson - communist, folklorist, high heidyin of the Scottish Folk Revival.

Henderson's song Freedom Come All Ye rallies against imperialism, exploitation and injustice, and calls all who stand against oppression never to give in:

A few months ago someone on Wikipedia suggested merging the (very sparse) Sandy Bell's page with Hamish Henderson's - which I thought was a terrible idea since Henderson was neither A Pub or The Revival.

Onyway, I finally got round to adding a few edits to expand the Bell's page but it's still in need of much overhaul if anybody's a Bells enthusiast.

Had the best day yesterday showing a fantastic group of students from the University of Basil around Highland Perthshire, introducing them to the Scottish Folk Revival.

My highlight was discussing Gramsci with them outside of Hamish Henderson's childhood home 🤩
