#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #FlyingBat Nebula is 2300 light years from Earth in the Cepheus constellation. In 2011, the extremely faint Squid Nebula was discovered in the center of the Bat. This image is nearly 5 hours of exposure salvaged from the night when I forgot to turn on my dew heater and so things look a bit messy despite my best efforts and there is no sign of the Squid. #StillLearning
#SkyWatch #Astrophotography Embedded in the middle of the #FlyingBat nebula is a faint blue nebula called the #Squid nebula. It is so faint that it was only discovered in 2011. Current thinking is that it really does lie within the Flying Bat about 2300 light years away. It continues to be my most challenging subject to date. This image is 30x600 seconds frames which are my longest single exposures so far. Not happy with the overall processing yet but happy I got some of the blue. #StillLearning
#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The #FlyingBat Nebula aka SH2-129 is a large hydrogen area ionized by stars about 2300 light years from Earth. The bright blue star in the center of the image is the center of an extremely faint blue (oxygen-rich) nebula called the Squid. Because of smoke from fires in Canada, I was unable to capture much of this nebula even with nearly five hours of exposure. I will try again when seeing conditions are better. #StillLearning
#SkyWatch #Astrophotography The red in this image is part of the large hydrogen emission nebula called the #FlyingBat aka #SH2-129 which is 2300 light years from Earth in the #Cepheus constellation. I was also targeting the #Squid nebula aka #OU4 which is the even fainter blueish-green area in the image. This nebula is so faint that it was only discovered in 2011. This image is only 2.5 hours of exposure so I'm confident I can get more detail in the future. #StillLearning

Here is the Squid ! Discovered in 2011 in the constellation Cepheus by Nicolas Outters, a French astrophotographer. This shows how faint it is... We also see in red Sh2-129, the bat nebula.
My hardest target so far.
