Flowblade Video Editor May Go Wayland-Only As Part Of GTK4 Port

Flowblade 2.24 released today as the newest version of this open-source, non-linear video editing application

@zahntron From all #Linux video editors that I assessed, the best seems to be #DavinciResolve (proprietary) and #KDEnlive, and with a somewhat different focus #Blender.
Contender #Shotcut.
Also available #OpenShot #Lightworks (proprietary) #Flowblade #Olive #Avidemux #Pitivi

PLEASE UPDATE: My assessment is from September 2024, if one of the video editors has progressed substantially, please respond!

@system76 @jorge #Davinci #videoeditor #videoeditors #videocut #floss #opensource

There are many open-source and free video applications that support Frei0r, a minimalistic plugin API for video effects.

Secondly, the #Flowblade UI doesn't even update correctly, it is often multiple steps behind. Like if you try to tweak a filter's key frames to show a cropped andzoomed portion of an video, and you're licking back and forth on the key-frame icons the parameters for the filter do not always update. In fact, they are often several clicks behind.

Even more annoying is that if you do not click ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY on the key-frame icon, it will move the key-frame a frame to the right or left.

First off, #Flowblade's UI is horrible. Almost nothing is intuitive with common GUI practice. Why the heck am I moving around the timeline by hitting the right or left arrows while in a text field trying to edit it?
If #Flowblade is the best video editing software on Linux, no wonder everybody uses MacOS. Flowblade is probably the shittiest piece of software I have ever used. And when I say that I worry about shit getting angry at me for such libel unto it.

@maxitb Thanks for your response. I don't know if I would call them student projects, but many of those applications are made for a very specific purpose (like transcribing audio, etc.) very much in the sense of Unix utilities that are designed for one or few tasks. However, there are some bigger applications in common usage as well, for example: #Flowblade #Pitivi #Kazam2 #MyPaint #Exhibit #Gaphor #Gajim #Paperwork #Scriptorium #GettingThingsGnome #Gramps #Cadabra #Saldo #Setzer

@GTK @gnome

@debby It really comes down to hardware now-a-days. Software like #Kdenlive #Krita #Flowblade #Shotcut #GMIC #Inkscape #Pencil2D #GIMP #Friction #Synfig #Glaxnimate #OBS #Blender #Handbrake #FFmpeg #Imagemagick and #Natron tend to offer some impressive options that allow users to achieve some impressive results.

Flowblade 2.20 comes with improved preset for keyframe animations.

The "Position Scale" filter and "Position Scale Rotate" filter now have a new feature making it possible to add some frequently needed animations such as "slide ins" and "zooms" in a single action.

This feature is available in the keyframe editor hamburger menu when selecting the item "Add Preset Keyframed Movement...."
