SJ gave me quite a fright today, with a mail and text message (no app notification though?) about my upcoming Hamburg-Stockholm train trip being rebooked and my breakfast cancelled!
Turns out quite well in the end: my sleeper train—breakfast still included—will arrive in Göteborg later, so I can sleep in, and the mentioned cancelled breakfast was the (2nd) one on the rebooked connecting train, simply because they don’t serve breakfast after 11AM…

@urlyman I often get this when I suggest we should all fly less (or not at all). People say the government should act, while refusing to change their own lives, and think that using air con will solve all issues. Government needs to see people are willing to change before they'll do anything, and they need to be pressured from all sides. It's worked in the past, so I try not to despair!

@rhys OK, I'd better not over react to headlines then, and read the article. It's hard not to get annoyed by anti Net Zero stuff. I despair as people drive and fly around our heating planet, all while they demand more air con to compensate for their actions.

@pvonhellermannn I have stuck up for Blair for years, against what I regarded as facile arguments, deliberate misrepresentations, and hyperbolic exaggeration of his mistakes. But he's lost me now, and I'm resolved to fight against his corrupt influence. I hope he loses sleep over this change of heart.

A simple move to help by being flight-free, yet 1% of the global population is responsible for 50% of flying emissions. ..

The Jet Fuel Crisis: What’s next for aviation?

Are flights across the world about to be grounded? Is a terrible war about to create an unlikely good news story for the climate? As conflict in the Middle East threatens the Strait of Hormuz, jet fuel shortages are forcing aviation to confront a structural vulnerability it has spent decades avoiding.

@Sustainable2050 It is a big worry. Only thing to do is to keep reminding people of what's happening, as you do so well. And to support green causes, rewild our gardens, chase the politicians. The message is getting through, keep going!

With the ongoing clusterfuck at the Strait of Hormuz limiting jet fuel availability, raising prices dramatically and potentially grounding planes, Possible has launched a campaign to ban #PrivateJets in the UK: https://action.wearepossible.org/page/191584/-/1

Frankly I think we should have done this a long time ago, it's not just the availability of fuel that should be constraining the amount we burn, it's the climatic consequences of doing so. Some people have a genuine need to visit family abroad or to travel for work (although it would be nice if the current crisis reminded some organisations that Zoom exists) so it's not fair that the share people get of what should be a limited resource depends on how much they can pay for it and it's certainly not fair that some people can use up a whole plane's worth just to avoid having to share a vehicle with a poor person.

Ask your MP: Protect people’s holidays this summer by banning private jets.

Cancelling just one short-haul private jet flight would save enough fuel to allow six families of four to go on holiday. Use this tool to email your MP today.

@thenorfolkcoast Oooooh. Excellent toot. I think I'll re-boost this every day until I think of a better way to rant ... Trains to Europe are fabulous ... So civilised compared to airport mayhem and awfulness. But I have to be careful not to rant about them too much or I will be friendless
