One of the interesting things about Fittie is that it was essentially a housing estate for fishermen evicted from pockraw by harbour expansion (porca quay basically).

Historically fittie would be nearer to the castlegate, with a small piece of the fittie port (some iron bars sticking out a wall) still visible round the back of the Carlton Bar.

Maybe you know this already, but I didn't until taking a tour by Dr Fiona-Jane Brown a year or two ago
