A bit of advice got about playing Firebrands (+hacks) is to treat it like a middle chapter or a random episode in a long series. Don't make it the pilot and don't try to solve the conflict; assume the characters *already* have complicated relationships
I'm still trying to get a handle on all of it, but it helped my feeling that we need to come to a satisfying conclusion on the story rather than just a glimpse into it

I wish Firebrands had its own moniker for games in that format, in the vein of "Powered by the Apocalypse," "Descended from the Queen," "Rooted in Trophy," etc. It's most common to call them "Firebrands hacks," and while I know "hack" isn't/wasn't considered derogatory by the indie ttrpg community, it still feels like it belittles the derivative work

@GamerMomLuna I am facilitating a one-shot of the GM-less RPG "Mobile Frame Zero: Firebrands" with Magpie Games Community Play Day tomorrow.
And I'll be playing in a continuing campaign of "Star Trek: Warp Cortex" on Sunday. That game is Modiphius "Star Trek Adventures" RPG with the game engine ported over from the 2d20 System to Cortex Prime.

So many. I have over 75 games in print on my RPG shelf that I still haven't tried, and hundreds of unplayed games on PDF from various game bundles.
But that's not going to stop me from buying more.
