Ancient #Celtic #FireFestival Marks Beginning of Summer

"Thousands of people gathered for the #Beltane Fire Festival, a Celtic ritual dating back to the Iron age, on Edinburgh’s #CaltonHill on Thursday evening, April 30.

Close to 10,000 people attended the festival, which is intended to mark the beginning of summer.

The modern version of the festival has been running since 1988, according to its organizers.

After a dramatic stage performance signifying the inception of summer, the #MayQueen and #GreenMan spark the birth of summer by lighting a huge bonfire.
