#ThursDeath this week is a twofer. I briefly mentioned Finland's CADAVERIC INCUBATOR last November when they had a split with Hemorrhoid, but I've recently revisited their two full length records (so far), and they are fucking RIDICULOUS.

If you like insane, intense, riffy and downright INCREDIBLE (dynamic!) deathgrind, don't miss these two LPs. Few bands do deathgrind better than this. More folks should talk about these dudes.

For this week's #ThursDeath, the crushing, brutal new EP 'In the Depths of Impurity' from Finland's OBSCENUM. These four great songs slog and blast and crawl and have those grody, cavernous vocals I love. This came out the day before Halloween this year on Psalmodist Records, and I only just discovered it a few minutes ago since Iron Corpse Productions thankfully posted about it. 🔥🔥🔥

#ThursDeath this week is another older, broken up band that I've been digging lately. SLUGATHOR was from Espoo, Uusimaa, Finland, and was active from 1999-2010. They had a few LPs, but I think my favorite of theirs is 'Circle of Death', originally released in 2006 (this is the 2020 reissue). Grueling, cavernous OSDM here like the Finnish can really nail - the likes of which clearly influenced current bands like Degraved. Riffs, growls and dynamics for DAYS on this one.

I love Helsinki, Finland's NECROTIC OOZE. First - what a name. These boys have riffs for DAYS. I've listened to this demo a LOT this year. Necrotic Ooze make the heaviest, growling doomy, sludgy death metal you could want. And this is just a demo. Can't imagine how great future releases are gonna sound from these guys.

For this week's #GrindayFriday, a new favorite, Finland's TUNKIO. They're fairly new, I think, since around 2017, and they grind HARD. One of my favorite grind discoveries this year.

Again, I've cropped the album cover to just their logo because of some grossness on the album cover, which is (of course) to be expected. Tunkio have been on a LOT of splits (again, like most grind bands), but this is their full length 'Hypertrophic Excrescence' from 2022.

Everyone knows Finland pumps out some of the world's best death metal, and Helsinki's MALFORMED are no exception.

For this week's #ThursDeath, Malformed's excellent EP from last year, 'The Gathering of Souls'. 5 tracks of gross, catchy death metal -- these guys KNOW death metal dynamics, and this record is a master class in them. Check the wild bass work, drums, guitar -- all of it. Everything about this is KILLER.

For this week's #ThursDeath, Finland's CONVULSE. Maybe some of you are familiar. It's very rare for me to like MULTIPLE full albums by a metal band, especially ones with songs that have a lot of intros, solos, and a tiny bit of clean singing (mixed with death metal growls mostly, in the last couple tracks of the last record).

Convulse are special. Their records from 1991 and 2013 are incredibly good - those have an excellent, solid mix of doom and death metal -- and then their 2016 and 2020 records get REALLY psychy and Sabbathy. The guitars on these records 🤯 And the catchiness, the dynamics, the vocals, the drums, wow.

Hope we see another from them. What an incredible band.

I don't really dig intros, and that's why this week's #ThursDeath is unique. In the grand tradition of fine Scandinavian metal before them, Helsinki, Finland's AZATOTH are a fairly new band. But their EP 'Ungodly Carnage' from 2022 is DRIPPING with slime and rot in under 20 minutes- just how I like it. SUPERBLY putrid stuff.

From the scuzzy solos to yes, the very cool intro (for once!) Azatoth is another up-and-coming death metal band to watch.
