I just learnt that the #BrazilianCentralBank decided to start an open beta version of an #Ethereum-based #CBDC under the name #RealDigital.

Right now this is basically a testnet with fake data but you do need to sign some paperwork in order to participate. I haven't read it yet but I assume it's just a contract saying you commit to running a full node for x months.

I'm in a state of partial shock and disbelief. This whole thing feels like a mix of #SiliconValley wastefullness and cryptobroism with that #Chinese infamy for controlling its economy.

I do expect our government to reintroduce a #FinancialTransactionsTax (similar to the old CPMF) in the coming years.

But I doubt they will do it without first getting rid of large cash transactions.
