Heading to #Boston for #AAN2023 (#AAN #AANAM)! We are excited about two posters from the lab being presented by awesome #UCSF med students:
Poster Session 6, Monday 4/24 5:30-6:30. Abraham Dada presenting P6.9-002 Factors mediating public perceptions of therapeutic closed-loop #BrainImplants for epilepsy and mood disorders.
- In a national survey we characterized mediators of demographic (age, race) differences in the prospective acceptability of #ClosedLoop implanted devices. We found that concerns about hacking, privacy and differing attitudes about medical innovation were key mediators; in many cases the importance of such concerns was itself mediated by income level.
Poster Session 14, Thursday 4/27 11:45-12:45. Danielle Hart presenting P14-6.006 Financial toxicity in dementia #caregiving.
- In a national study of #dementia #caregivers we found high levels of #FinancialToxicity. Black, non-Hispanic caregivers are more likely to experience financial toxicity than White, non-Hispanic caregivers. In a base demographic model we were surprised to find older age as a protective factor; in a fully-adjusted model this is explained by the relationship between age and employment status (retirement and other unemployment).
