Lothian Road by the Filmhouse, a Saturday evening, normally buzzing with people coming from bars, restaurants and thewatres nearby. But almost deserted: cinemas & bars were already closed as COVID spread across Europe, national Lockdown was days away. Strange times...

Well, it has been an immensely upsetting few days, & likely more to come in the near future before I (hopefully) get through this. So this afternoon I am taking myself off to one of my favourite places, the Filmhouse, to watch Nouvelle Vague & ignore everything else for a while.

Utter delight to have the Filmhouse back for its first Christmas season in years, and It's a Wonderful Life still wove its eternal magic today.

Jimmy Stewart, freshly back from the horrors he saw in the war, comrades lost in front of his yes, here trying to return to acting in a movie that moves through darkness to hope & love. Wonderful.
