Just finished watching 1944's "Laura" for the first time- hell of a movie. Wasn't expecting it to be so gripping, or with such an engaging cast of characters. I can see why it is number 1 on so many film noire lists.
Loved it, though I didn't quite catch why the detective fell in love with Laura. From reading her diary, maybe?
This week I saw The Third Man in cinema. 75 years old, and still going strong, I can much recommend this beautiful gem of the Film Noir era. The 4k remaster was also done brilliantly.

A fantastic homage to #FilmNoire and hard-boiled detective fiction as (mostly) Hollywood sees it. Fantastic story, wonderful acting by some of my favourite players, and incredible twists galore.

At just over an hour, there’s a great deal packed into this picture. We follow a man’s descent into danger, self-recrimination, and ultimately justice.
Rain, Los Angeles, the desert, long stretches of highway at night, seedy cafes, apartments, used car lots, it’s all here in glorious black and white. Despite the low budget, there’s a great deal of art to be appreciated.
Seek it out; it’s well worth your time.
