Movie " Born in Flames" (Lizzy Borden, 1983, 130 min. OmU)

Set ten years after the most peaceful revolution in the united states history, a revolution in which a socialist government gains power, this film presents a dystopia in which the issues of many oppressed -minorities, gay rights organizations, feminists- are ostensibly dealt with by the government , and yet there are still problems with jobs, with gender issues, with governmental preferences and violence.

In New York City , in this future time, a group of women decide to organize and mobilize, to take the revolution farther then any men - and many women- ever imagined in their lifetime

Come along to our queer film evening!

Did you know that 30 per cent of all lesbian couples are lesbian?

Clownfish can easily change their gender and flamingos are polyamorous? 🏳️‍🌈 No?

That's because even our view of the animal kingdom is permeated by heteronormative structures.

You can find out more about this and how gay penguins raise their children at our film night at faq.

Bring your friends and come along! Snacks and drinks will be available for a donation! 🍿🍿

Optional dress code if you feel like it: gay animals 🐧🦒🦁

We look forward to seeing you! ❤️‍🔥

🗣 Important: The film we want to watch with you is only available in English. However, the introduction will be in German :)

You are cordially invited to our screening of the documentary @kein_land_fuer_niemand together with @womeninexile :)!

Afterwards, there will be a film discussion with women in exile and sea-eye Berlin :)

While Germany is helping to build a European fortress, the political landscape is shifting.

From emotionalised media reports to politicians helplessly veering to the right, a social narrative is emerging that is directed against migrants and those seeking protection.

Is migration really the big problem it is made out to be? Or does the policy of isolation reveal deeper social fears?

Through powerful stories, the film shows an increasingly frightening reality from the perspective of refugees and analyses the dynamics behind the historic shift to the right.

🕓 6:45 p.m. film and from 8 p.m. community kitchen
🗣 The film is in English with German subtitles.

The documentary ‘To Kill a War Machine’ offers an intense insight into an activist group's direct struggle against the British war industry and its arms companies.

Through bodycam footage and mobile phone videos, it shows occupations and sabotage actions aimed at drawing attention to the links between the British arms sector and the genocide in Gaza.

After several acts of civil disobedience, the group successfully achieved the closure of Elbyt Systems' production facilities and brought about the termination of business relationships with its suppliers.

Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to discuss the film over delicious food in exchange for a donation.

We especially invite students from Berlin's universities to watch this film with us!

Never trust parliaments, build on resistance from below!

In the hegemony of nation states, repression and oppression are a legitimate means of subduing uncomfortable voices.

The situation around the world is getting worse and becoming increasingly dangerous for forces operating outside the licensing structures.

Youth resistance is always there, we want to discuss how resistance has changed and looked like in the past.

On our last Bar this year, the 5th december, we will watch the documentary  "Schleimkeim - Otze and the GDR from below" together and then introduce an open discussion. / non commercial filmscreening

Come around and share your points of view.

🦽🦻 Accessibilitiy: The La Casa is only accessaible via stairs. The varying lightning conditions may be overstimulating. A quit room and stimming toys are available if needed.

🕯 ‘Orlac's Hands’🕯

It's slowly getting colder and we're getting ready for the second part of our silent film series ‘Nights of Silence’.

We continue with a classic of expressionist horror silent film:

✋ Orlac's Hands (1924, directed by Robert Wiene)

Pianist Paul Orlac loses his hands in an accident and receives those of an executed murderer.

The fear that they could influence his will drives him increasingly into despair.

Director Robert Wiene, known for The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, combines psychological drama with elements of horror in Orlac's Hands.

With Conrad Veidt in the lead role, the film is considered an early example of the motif of loss of identity in cinema.
