While I'm here: photos of fruit from the previous fruiting season. The first two are from the tree in the last two photos in the previous post. Shannon and I ate a lot off that tree, they taste sweet and slightly of berries. Shannon ate eight in one sitting and her regular IBS issues were alleviated.

The second two photos show a fruit from the tree in the carpark next to the bin in the first post. I can't tell if it is a caprifig or not, the fruit looks much more edible than one would expect from a caprifig, though I wasn't game to try it because it looked a bit dry around the edges and I get scared easily. Could it be an incredibly rare kind of edible caprifig? If so I shall become a millionaire selling $200 cuttings to fig freaks on ebay. Stay tuned.

More fig trees: the first is a photo of a caprifig turning a lovely warm brown, the last two are a tree I thought might be a seedling (lots of branches/trunks emerging from a point in the middle, no signs of previous pruning), but on closer inspection I noticed in the centre there was a stump that had been cut back to the ground and the branches where springing from around it - so potentially a very old variety someone failed to remove! Exciting stuff.

I have been on various expeditions recently to collect fig cuttings from feral figs I've come across in my travels, to great success. There's a lot out there if u go looking (and also are not afraid to jump fences on occasion, or lean just a little bit into people's backyards). In particular there's an empty lot in Glynde where there are 5 fig trees and a couple other fruit trees. This lot is likely to be demolished sometime in the next year or so, so I'm glad I got to rescue them and put them in the hands of the Rare Fruit Society's collection - particularly the very yummy honey fig which I turned into jam last summer.

If anyone else has spotted some figs around, please let me know! Even if you've tried them and decided they are inedible, it may be that that tree is a caprifig (which provides pollen to improve other figs), or a fig that is reliant on pollination to be edible. Also if anyone's grandparents have fig trees that they brought in from other countries before biosecurity laws got more strict, please share!

The first three photos are of caprifigs, the last is unknown as to what type of fig tree it is.
