This week was a bit of a clusterfuck.

I still got paid to work, so that's a good thing, but a clusterfuck nonetheless.

Customer wanted fiber run from one building to an outbuilding. They had conduit all laid out and buried, pullstrings, that was all set. The path between the main datacenter in the main building and the MDU in the outbuilding was easy enough.

Problem is, #Arista (who is going to be providing their switches when they do their network upgrade here soon) told them they needed to use single-mode fiber "for future-proofing"... Problem is, the run was less than 600 feet.

Wednesday we laid out the single-mode fiber and ran it between the buildings, only to find out the customer didn't have any single mode SFPs to plug into their switches... So they ordered some and asked if I could come back Monday...

Thursday I get a call from my boss letting me know that I'm going back Friday (today) to run multi-mode along side the single-mode I've put in already... .and terminate it at both ends.

Got all 600 feet of it run, terminated the fiber ends, and cut over to the new link.

Now they can finish remodeling the outbuilding, put a roof on it, etc, etc, etc, and take the old aerial drop down.

In a few weeks I'm going back to run copper to all the workstations in the building. At that time I get to re-terminate the fiber in that MDF.. because I had to make this one TEMPORARY.. because the cabinet/rack they had in that room was only 12" deep. I'll be hanging a new, 24" deep cabinet, installing a proper LIU, and performing all the cable management necessary to make it beautiful and functional.

The single-mode is still there. Maybe they'll use it in the future for extension to a further building, but it's going to go un-used now... It was installed for naught... but at least I got paid to do what the customer wanted.

This #drone was found crashed in or near US military base in Bagdad.

This is a #fiberoptic FPV drone. Cheap and unjammable. Silent. Radar signature of a bird. Precise. Deadly.

With these, Ukraine has been punishing the much larger Russian army to a retreat.

If I was USA, I would be very, very afraid.

But you only know to be afraid of this teeny weeny object, if you’ve closely followed the Russo-Ukrainian war!

Okay, new fiber to the office is in the conduit and the old fiber (both the working multi-mode fiber and the too-short single-mode fiber)'s all bundled up and put away! That took forever, but it was worth it! And hey, that's one more SFP+ port open on my Brocade ICX-7250 switch, since now the office is on the same breakout cable from the Mellanox SX6036 as the living room!

Russia helps Iran kill US troops in US bases in Iraq.

We have video evidence #Iran-linked militias posted flying #fiberoptic attack #drones into a US base in Iraq.

Russia pioneereed this technology in Ukraine.

Iranian Shahed drones now carry Russian technology. #Ukraine confirmed this last week.

Gulf states and US military has asked Ukraine for help.

What does dumbass in charge do? ”We don’t need Ukraine’s help!”, and drops sanctions on Russian oil!

Smooch, smooch, slurp, slurp.. 🤦‍♂️
