In A Colourful Pickle
Yesterday's home-made (non-vegetarian) #dinner was very colourful. :)
I was really satisfied with the results. See image description for all ingredients.
First attempt at making a Masala #Chai simple syrup has been decent.
I do think it needs quite a bit more ginger (perhaps I should grate some instead of slicing it), and get some better cinnamon sticks. Should also look into if there is much of a difference between using cardamom pods, or just the dried seeds from them (which I used).
Definitely need to up the spice to water ratio too, or let it infuse for longer.
Using muscovado along with regular sugar gives an interesting extra depth, but may also have made it too sweet. (Though amping up the spices in general might help with that too, as I would need to add less of the #SimpleSyrup to my freshly brewed #tea.)

So, the batch of #buttermilkBiscuits from the dough I'd set aside in the fridge yesterday, came out of the oven earlier. :)
Now @Siiw could also enjoy some while they were still warm. :)

Managed to whip up another batch of #sodaBread #biscuits today, this time made with #buttermilk ΒΉ rather than regular whole milk, but still with #bakingPowder instead of #bakingSoda.
Again a mix of 1 cup of plain flour, Β½ cup wholegrain flour and Β½ cup of rye flour.
Half of the batch got mixed with finely diced apple, coated with cinnamon and sugar.
ΒΉ (or whatever the English alternative of #kulturmelk is)

While the oven was hot already anyway, I decided to amp up the rather lackluster, store-bought, white #bread #buns we still had.
Sliced them up, covered them with cheese, spread some mustard on 'em, and topped half of them with small tomatoes, salt and pepper, before popping them into the oven.
The result was quite a lot tastier #cheeseMelts / #toasties!
Plenty left for and easy #lunch tomorrow!
