I haven't taught intro psych in a long time, so it's been fun to rebuild lectures & content. I found a random page with this image (clearly stolen from a different source; see watermark). Leon Festinger. I'm guessing this is the early 60s, around the time he developed the theory of cognitive dissonance.
I don't know if he was a nice guy or likable or even if he had horrifying ideas about social justice, but what I've seen of his theory and empirical work makes me respect him quite a lot. If you need a scientist role model, it seems you might do worse than L. Festy.
