Then-captain Hopper was prescient in 1982 about supply chain, weather prediction, and water shortage. Much of this charming recording is still relevant today. #FeministFriday

She was a pioneer of computer programing, and among her accomplishments, Hopper was the first to devise the theory of machine-independent programming languages. She was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom – the nation’s highest civilian honor – in 2016. In a field where men have historically been treated as the default and female aspects have been under-researched and under-funded, it’s no surprise that postpartum depression, which happens to 1 in 7 women, hasn’t been treatable with a simple pill—until now. Progress happens. #FeministFriday #GenderEquality #PostpartumDepression #PPD #zuranolone #zurzuvae #MedicalResearch #research
At the launch of the 2023 Global Education Monitoring Report on technology in education in Scotland, the panel discussion was populated by one female moderator, one female panel member, and no less than four male panel members. While no one had a seat by the table solely due to their sex, many relevant and competent contenders did not have a seat by the table due to their sex. #FeministFriday #GenderEquality #representation #ScotlandGEMRLaunch
According to study at #UniversityOfKent, UK #GenderPayGap for higher-educated parents has grown since 1970s. In 1978, mothers aged 23–59 who left school after the age of 18 made 72% of the wages of equivalent fathers. By 2019 this had fallen to 69%. #FeministFriday #EqualPay #GenderEquality
The 2022 Global Gender Wealth Equity report from WTW revealed that globally, women retire with 74% of the wealth that men do. This varies across the 39 countries included in the analysis, from 60% to 90%. An example of how the gender pay gap imposes consequences far beyond the next paycheck. #FeministFriday #GenderPayGap #GenderEquality #retirement #WTWWealthEquity #WTW
Had the gender pay gap in the US continued to close by 1980s’ one percentage point per year, it would have reached parity by 2017. Instead, the introduction of family leave policies during the 1990s—furthering gender roles according to which women take on more of the unpaid domestic labor—lowered the one percentage point per year to 0.03. A case of unequal gender roles derailing the work with unequal pay. #FeministFriday #GenderPayGap #GenderRoles #GenderEquality #MotherhoodPenalty #UnpaidLabor
Last year a woman was pushed onto the tracks at a subway station in #Toronto. #TorontoTransitCommission’s comment was that she “ought to have known” that it was unsafe for her to travel “alone and unassisted”. Can we just be done blaming women for being assaulted? #FeministFriday #VictimBlaming #TTC
