Every mortal and divine knows it is to be expected that a family with daughters might lose one to the wandering interests of the other gods. When Miss Phryne Fields had been pursued while visiting her eldest sister Diana, she had had the good sense to turn herself into an oak tree. Of course, there was no turning back, but better to be a tree than an old maid trying to outlive a scandal.
