While Betty's ankles may be scandalous, this #FelixTheCat short from 1928 is a pretty explicit depiction of the booze and drug filled club scene in the Roaring Twenty's.
Felix is shown popping pills, smoking and drinking copious amounts of hooch.
His "trip" through the night is pretty astounding.

Still avoiding YouTube. But this came back into my head today.
When I was a kid there was a cool old-fashioned ice cream parlor down the street. Upstairs there was a candy counter, and some old-fashioned (REALLY old-fashioned) hand-cranked machine (either a Kinetoscope or a Mutoscope) where you could watch short silent cartoons for a nickel. Felix the Cat was my favorite.
I miss cool stuff like that!

Félix is one of my good friends… I was hoping to see him at Christmas, but he didn’t come… I waited again on New Year’s Day to celebrate, but he let me down… He came by this morning to wish me a happy new year…
I really like that cat; he loves in his own detached way… He’s kind of my guru…

A perky little song (with a lot of extra choruses, should you be in the mood), arranged for ukulele by May Singhi Breen.
Paul Whiteman's version from 1928, as was extremely common at the time, leaves out the majority of the lyrics, so I've also linked to a modern cover by Sheet Music Singer which includes almost all of it.
