So I had six dark-eyed juncos under the feeders today, crushing the previous record of four.

This is the first year I've seen our Robins consistently at our suet. In prior years you might see one curious but mostly unsuccessful and that was it for the year.
This year I see them pecking our upside down suet often, and with a good bit of success.
I wonder what has changed?
Hey, frozen and/or snowed in friends. It’s a hard time to be a bird out there.
If you can, your feathered friends need food, but more importantly they could use some unfrozen water. They can eat snow, but melting it lowers already low body temps and burns calories needed for survival.
BONUS: You’ll likely be the only game in town and get quite a show 🤩

The end of Feederwatch for the year, notes on native gardening, a recommended book and a gorgeous Rose-breasted Grosbeak.

The local goldfinches are starting to come back to color. Though right now they are kind of hilarious looking. This photo sucks. I’m still figuring out how to use the new camera.
