Colin the Mathmo@m_artigiani My advice is to watch the local feed, and if something looks good, open the profile of the person who posted it.
Then see who they follow, and follow all of them.
Now your home feed is full of a mixture of things ... whenever anyone says something interesting, do as above. Whenever anyone says something *uninteresting*, unfollow them.
Mastodon is very much a "Social Network", and it works best by following people who might be interesting, then unfollowing the ones who aren't.
Finally, post things you're interested in, and people will find you (especially if you use lots of hashtags)
