Sitcom dads used to be wise. Now they’re punchlines, even as fatherhood has become more hands-on and intentional. Maybe it’s time TV caught up https://buff.ly/5PDI7Ur

"What's that ruckus?"

"Oh, it's Bud. I think he's dry humping his bed."

One of THE BEST episodes of #FatherKnowsBest. Season 4. Duchess the wonder #Dog. (A Friend in Need) Traveling salesman looses his dog while passing through Springfield. Duchess manages to ring the Anderson's doorbell in the middle of the night. She worms her way into their hearts. The ending scene, as Duchess reunites with her owner... well, the tears are streaming. 🐕🐕

"Wattcha watching?"

"Oh, Father's Knows Best. It's an old series in black and white."

"Yeah, I know it. Is this the episode where they eat all the pigeons?"

"No, it's the... wait. What? I've never seen that episode."

"Oh, yeah... the pigeon eating is from the running commentary going on in my head while I watch the show."

Years ago, we had analog TV. Thankfully, we still do. There was/is no "channel guide." We had listings in the newspaper, or we got #TV Guide magazine 😊(HEAVY on #cigarette Advertising--HEAVY, believe me--50s/60s) Anyways, after #SitComs (and other genres, but I grew up on sitcoms) there was a "tag scene" to close the show. Then credits. As those shows moved into reruns and syndication, the tags were dropped to make room for commercials-- shorten the show. Never again seen, for decades. Some were made available on DVD releases. Just tonight, watching #FatherKnowsBest on Amazon, saw a particular tag scene for the 1st time. Wow 💞💞 #RobertYoung #JaneWyatt
