This is a really good recap of the fascists' side of the snow wall at the last Canada First rally.

The infighting. The various Nazis. The hangers-on.

A long read, but worth hanging on to the end.

White Nationalists Rallied in Toronto – Plenty of Fail to go Around

Hamilton is also having some issues dealing with their shit.

While the incident is considered hate-motivated and will be tracked by the police hate crime unit, police said there were no reports of criminal activity.

Photos of the rally show members of the group giving Nazi salutes. The group often protests and shares anti-immigration posts on social media and calls for “white men” to “fight back.”

In a statement posted to Facebook Monday, Horwath said she is “deeply disturbed to learn that a white supremacist organization descended upon Hamilton City Hall for a gathering glorifying hate.”

And the CBC piece yesterday.

The report appears to reveal, for the first time, that the federal department that oversees the RCMP is addressing this movement directly. In previous reporting, the RCMP would not specifically comment on the rapid rise of active clubs — white nationalist groups that operate under the guise of getting fit through training and combat sports.

Of the more than 200 known active club chapters globally, a “disproportionate” number, more than 30, operate in Canada, according to the report. Second Sons Canada — a similar far-right group — has more than 15 chapters.

These fascist fight clubs have increasingly moved from online forums to real-world training and public demonstrations.

White nationalist fight clubs pose risk for 'extreme violence,' warns government report | CBC News

The growing white nationalist "active club" movement poses a risk for "extreme violence" in Canada, according to an internal Public Safety Canada brief obtained by CBC News.

CBC

Oh what fine timing.

in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. Active clubs are groups of white nationalist extremists who gather in person to work out and practice smacking each other around — all in the name of preparing for impending violence.

The rise of active clubs in Canada is no joke, warned Simons.

“In Canada, three men associated with (active clubs) have been charged with terrorism offences: one was found guilty and is serving 10 years in prison, one pleaded guilty and is awaiting sentencing and the third is awaiting trial. Outside Canada, active club members have been responsible for violence in several countries,” Simons explained. (These examples of criminal charges and violence do not involve Frontenac Active Club or its members.)

I just experienced some equivalent of the Mandela Effect¹ for one!

I was convinced Patrik Mathews, the neo-Nazi was from BC and the manhunt was in MB.

Turns out I was also remembering a concurrent incident involving a manhunt for two BC teens who murdered three people who were eventually FOUND in MB.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Northern_British_Columbia_murders

Turns out that the first one, was a legit Nazi, the second set had a Nazi tie that family members disavow.

Anyway, apparently it's really difficult to understand why people focus on the violence of the right wing instead of the antifa.
___________

¹ it might actually turn out to be the Mandela effect proper because these two incidents were so close to each other they may have been conflated in other people's heads, too. I just don't have a data set.

Aug 2019: Inside a neo-Nazi group attempting to gain a foothold in Winnipeg and across the country

He stands about 5-10, with hair that’s shaggy on top and clipped close at the sides. He pulls at his bushy beard when he's deep in thought. His arms are often crossed when he talks. If you walked past him on the sidewalk, you wouldn’t look twice. He wants to recruit young white men for a race war. He thinks one is coming and can’t wait for it to get here. His group idolizes serial killers and mass shooters, referring to the likes of Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh and Charleston church shooter Dylann Roof as “the saints.” His name is Patrick and he plans to establish a white supremacist terror cell in Manitoba.

Originating in the United States in 2008, the alt-right has rebranded far-right extremism into a more palatable form. In Canada, this movement is marked by a blend of anti-immigration, anti-Muslim, anti-Jewish, anti-multicultural, anti-feminist, and anti-government sentiments.

Its core narrative is that white identity and Western culture are under attack from multicultural forces. The Canadian alt-right can be broken down into several sub-groups:

• White Supremacists
• Manosphere/Masculinism Groups: Online communities that promote antifeminist views and sometimes justify gender-based violence.
• Ethnonationalists: Those who claim that shared ancestry is the foundation of national identity and that governments should protect a dominant culture.
• Anti-Muslim and Anti-Jewish Factions
• Sovereigntist & Militia Groups: Sovereigntists reject court and state authority. They can sometimes mobilize as militia.

These groups frequently employ patriotic rhetoric that resonates with certain conservative political narratives, leveraging grievances over economic insecurity and public safety.

Hate, unfortunately, has a home in Canada. Over the course of the last several years there has been a surge in hate crimes, many of which target the Muslim Community.

In January of 2017, six individuals —Ibrahima Barry (39 years old), Mamadou Tanou Barry (42 years old), Khaled Belkacemi (60 years old), Aboubaker Thabti (44 years old), AbdelKrim Hassane (41 years old), and Azzedine Soufiane (57 years old)— were shot and killed, and 19 others wounded in an attack on a mosque by Alexandre Bissonnette in Quebec City.

In September of 2020 International Muslim Organization Mosque caretaker Mohamed Aslam Zafis (58 years old) had his throat slit outside of the Rexdale area mosque in Ontario.

Then in June of 2021 the Afzaal family in London, Ontario, was struck by a pickup truck while taking a leisurely walk. Salman, (46 years old), Talat, (74 years old), Madiha (44 years old), and Yumna (15 years old) were all killed. Fayez (9 years old) survived the attack, having lost his father, mother, sister, and grandmother.
