Resonates! “Every time I saw voters interviewed in the Farrer by-election, it was hard to figure out what they were upset about, and what they would change.” They were never asked those further questions in a meaningful way… or at least in a way that we, watching, (ie not living there) could get meaning from.

Last month, we charged up at the Dunedoo Bowlo. Not expecting the worst, but I was, a bit, ready for ... ?something? Not sure.
Anyway. We met a lovely man, definitely a Nationals voter (I *am* being unfair and I am profiling, and that is notgood, yes). We chatted to him about the cost of diesel and the 30kL of it that he needs to seed in his crop and get it started.
30kL, $60k. No options other than 'leave it for a year and guarantee a loss'.
He gave us a view from his world, and we gave him the view from ours. Not ideological on either side.
Amazingly, to me at least, he ventured/agreed - Donald Trump is to blame for 'almost all' of it.

But then I notice there were 12 candidates. (And none of them were Lab). Hence there were 10 other ways to send a message that did not require voting for angry, racist nativists.
And the two major parties were third and fourth by first pref vote! Hardly punished.
Nah. They're just bigots.
I won't be cycle-touring through there anytime soon, (and asking for vegetarian options at the restaurants and cafes, LOL, massively triggering for this lot), that's for sure!
Emma DavidsonI've been going through the #Farrer by-election results for first prefs by polling place, and it's a useful way to find the small towns where I'd feel quite uncomfortable if I stopped for a visit. Which is a legit consideration given how often I'm in tiny towns in that electorate.
Places where 76.8% of voters chose One Nation are unlikely to feel safe to anyone who's LGBTIQA+ or environmentally conscious or isn't white or any number of other aspects of identity. This is a shame, I thought we were making progress in some of those towns.
I used to pick "town to stop at" based on the combo of EV charger + pie shop. Now it'll be calculated based on best pie shop from a subset of towns with a One Nation vote below 37%, and an EV charger. So you create the subset of low-ON vote towns first, then from that a subset of towns with EV chargers, then rank them by best to worst pie shop.

RaymondPierreL3So, #Pauline is not only over the moon about her very own flying bribe (Courtesy #Gina), but she is positively boyed by the prospect of further lower House seats in the coming years and dreams of wearing an Australian Crown (As all #RWNJs do).
Now, #Farrer has #Farley going to the #House. Notably, Mr Farley, of questionable political loyalty, alledgedly knows a lot about water and is said to be concerned by #ClimateChange, two important although competing topics of conversations in his electorate. But don’t be fooled. If Farley has shown us anything it is that he worked bloody hard to get a nomination to stand for office. He was on a mission and sought whatever means would get him there. While I may be out on a limb here, my guess is that Mr Farley knows exactly what the electore needs and has no need to seek its opinion. As the headline reveals:
“The former Nationals member has admitted to flirting with the idea of joining Labor or running as an independent as he mulled how to best translate his policy ambitions into political success.” He is itching to get HIS policies on the floor of the House, and by hook or by crook he’s gonna do it with the same energy he shopped around to get there. I think the punters are correct here, Farley wont be with #PHON very long…
