This is from George Wharton Edwards, The Forest of Arden With Some of its Legends, New York, 1914, and by then inks didn’t fade much. But it was the four-colour process, making the pictures harder to reproduce.

I try to have colour pictures on the front page of frooldbooks.org to liven it up a bit, and so visitors see they are not all monochrome!

Wow! Wow! Wow! This is amazing. As if the character jumped straight from the 2D cover and into the 3D world. This is exactly what I saw in my head as a kid. It's taken a long time to get there, now it's becoming a reality.
