#KingdomMolongi - "Emanuel" (#NyegeNyegeTapes, 2025)

"singing together in an imagined language concocted from elements of Lingala, Swahili, Kikongo and French . . . Considering pre-linguistic communication, liturgical music and glossolalia (better known as speaking in tongues), their improvisations evolved into trances"

#LutherVandross - "Take You Out" (2001)

I don't always love this man's material, but I'll never fail to give props to his velvet tenor - especially when it's this song. Plus he's improvising with a little #falsetto at the end. For once, #JayZ and I agree: this is late-life Luther greatness.

The keen ears at @blogamf hipped me to #CrammedDiscs’ 2022 release of this lost 1987 album by Congolese-born/Belgian-raised #MauricePotoDoudongo. It's future forward electro-funk, ala #ZazouBiyake - or #Prince, fr christs sake! - but steeped in the rhythms and textures of #CongoleseRumba and #Soukous. Rich, joyful, and really quite beautiful, this one gets me moving and still sounds relevant today.

The life struggles behind #Debarge couldn't be more tragic - it's astounding that to date only Bobby has passed. But on record, their collective voices were nothing short of angelic. "I Like It" was a great illustration of just how celestial Randy, Bunny, & Eldra could be when they flew high.

Never met a #GreggAlexander song I didn't like; most I absolutely love. Thankfully his songwriting credits are plentiful. His original, unreleased demo of "The Game of Love" has the edge on the kinda smug, big hit version by #Santana feat. #MichelleBranch - the lo-fi production and heartbreaking #falsetto of his gives it real feeling.
