The relationship between cricket chirping and temperature has been noted for a long time. In Western science, it is called Dolbear’s law after the most widely referenced early publication on the phenomenon published in 1897 by Amos Dolbear. His observations showed that you can count the number of chirps per 15 seconds, add 40, and that will give you the temperature in Fahrenheit (F).

Temperature (F) = number of cricket chirps in 15 seconds + 40

There is of course no calculation for Celcius but NOAA offers help:

To convert a Fahrenheit temperature to Celsius, subtract 32 from it and then multiply by 5/9:

°C = (F - 32) * 5/9

The song was written by #DavidPaich and features lead vocals by #SteveLukather. The single was one of Toto's most successful adult contemporary hits of the 1980s. People sometimes claim #fahrenheit is better for describing how people feel about #weather. Here's my proposed compromise: actual air #temperature is posted in #celsius with °C next to it. Wind chill/heat index/feels like factor is posted in fahrenheit with a 🙂 in superscript tags next to it instead of the degree symbol so we know it's a feeling, not a measurement.
