The #ucstrike continues and here's some interesting data> The highest paid UC faculty (from http://ucop.edu) are the least likely to support the graduate student strike; measured by petition signing [from @BeccaRoskill and @snaidunl, from that place called twitter] #fairUCnow #facultysolidarity

UC strike enters third week as finals near, tensions mount

The strike of 48,000 University of California workers may have long-lasting consequences to the system's teaching and research excellence, some fear.

Los Angeles Times

Update: the UC Faculty Pledge of Solidarity has grown to 240 people so far. Please read, share, and consider signing on.

This pledge asks Senate Faculty (tenured and tenure-stream) across all 10 UC campuses to withhold instructional labor, including struck grading labor, to respect the UAW picket line.

UC Faculty Pledge of Solidarity

UC Faculty Pledge of Solidarity with Strike November 23, 2022 We, the undersigned faculty members employed by the University of California, express our strongest possible solidarity with the largest university strike in United States history. We will be exercising our legally protected right

Normally, in a strike, it’s management who has to make up struck labour. Why is the UC continuing to lay it on faculty to do this?

Sure, we /can/ change our assignments and exams to be less labour-intensive to grade, but why should we even have to do that work? Administration promised us workers in the form of TAs (and RAs where our research is concerned), so administration needs to fill the gap. Or settle.

If faculty fill in, it’s going to be months before management noticed the pain.

Besides, we’ve been overworking for 3 years now with all the COVID induced adaptations. We do not have the capacity to keep at it.
