There is a very strong push right now in my community on Facebook, which is where most of the community "discussion" happens.. for alternatives to Facebook.

Are you seeing this or hearing about it second-hand like me?

This is the first time I've seen or heard of a real push out of Facebook since the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

What's the go-to alternative on the Fediverse, or will it be a mixture?

One thing people might want to keep in mind when others tell them that Mastodon is "too confusing" is that I am seeing literally _fleets_ of people trying to leave Facebook saying _BlueSky_ is too confusing for them, and being utterly unable to find other BlueSky users despite knowing the usernames of the people they're trying to find.

I do not understand this and I do not want to be judgmental, I am simply presenting this "holy shit" fact.

Giving a URL to a profile and saying "click on the Follow button" seems to be helpful, but I'm trying to find out if that works properly if a person's only real way of using the web is through phone apps.

So, a whole lot of people want to leave meta right now, and we should be providing good alternatives. What is the current best decentralized solution for private posts, i.e. to friends only? How about for private groups? Are there any tools on the fediverse that support these? I want to recommend a solution to meta refugees, and I think these two features of FB are holding a lot of people back from switching.

Potential solutions include:

- Mastodon, when requiring approval for followers and then posting only to followers;

- Matrix rooms, where each person creates a room that includes all their friends;

- Friendica? Other apps?

I haven't tried these myself. If you have, would you say they work well for private posting, using roughly the same paradigm as FB? (Part of that is bilateral "friendships" rather than unilateral "follows".)

Do you know of other solutions?

There is an exodus building from Facebook. Right now, more are going to BlueSky than to Mastodon, but they're going both places.

This is my writeup of how to follow people on one from the other, using Fedi Bridge, in part so that people know they _can_ pick Mastodon and _not_ lose their BlueSky contacts.

This will also help people who go to BlueSky later, if BlueSky also gets enshittified.

Time for a #FacebookChallenge!

Go log in to your old #Facebook account, make a quip about unpopular policy there, followed by a comment about how there is a nonprofit social network that doesn't have these problems, and a link to JoinMastodon.org (or similar onboarding site). Bonus points if you see posts by your friends complaining and respond to those too.

Where is the #Facebookmigration ? I left in 2017. But I note that #Facebook has for many become somewhere between an addiction, a teen girl killer, and otherwise similar to 1000s #scifi plots, like pod people kind of thing.
