The fish net in the center represents the people's connection to the sea, while the olive leaves represent the people's connection to the land, and their resiliance. Olives are one of Palestine's primary products, and a symbol of peace. This is all interconnected by bold lines representing trade routes.
The flag of Palestine was made illegal by Israeli occupation in 1967 when they took over Palestine in the Six Day War, and while that ban was officially lifted after the Oslo Accords in 1993, Israeli officials continued to persecute its display as a practical ban until 2023 when it was officially banned again by the Israeli government, making the display of a Palestinian flag an "Act of Terrorism".
This is how the kufiya became an important symbol of Palestine, when flying their own flag can condemn them to life imprisonment, and now death. The watermelon also became an alternative symbol in design themes due to its inclusion of the colors in the flag of Palestine.
So wear a kufiya with reverance and understanding of its cultural significance, to show your solidarity with Palestine and to keep their culture alive in the face of genocide.
