Because Japan wants to make a killing on-selling subsidised Australian gas while we in Australia are facing a likely gas shortage this winter. Of course #Japan wants more Cheap Australian gas… #Grifters

#GasIndustries #ExtractiveIndustries #FossilFuel #antifa #EatTheRich

This new repord by the Australia Institute shows the extent to all Australian taxpayers contribute to the #Gas #Corporate #Grifters as a result of our #Labor govt’s support for the #ExtractiveIndustries

“Fossil fuel subsidies cost Australian governments
$16.3 billion in 2025–26, an increase of 9.4% on the
previous year. This is a larger increase than the
7.6% growth of the National Disability Insurance
Scheme. Growth in fossil fuel subsidies is driven by
the Federal Government’s Fuel Tax Credit Scheme,
which cost $10.8 billion in 2025–26. Growth of this
scheme is expected to outstrip spending on a range
of social services including disability assistance,
child care subsidies and aged care.”

If you are going to read anything serious during this 48th Parliament, then read this report and be angry, very angry:

Advocacy group says N.W.T. mining regulators too cozy with industry

A social justice group accuses the N.W.T. government of giving "privileged access” to mining industry representatives as the territory develops new mining regulations. The CBC's Avery Zingel reports.

This is not just about ‘taking the piss’, it is highway robery.
‘…gas companies are deliberately exporting enough gas to ensure the amount of gas available Australians remains tight in order to keep domestic prices high.’

Ney it’s pillage and rape level skulduggery.
‘Then they use the threat of these engineered “shortages” to pressure Australian governments to approve new gas projects, but since these projects are almost entirely for export, they wreck the environment but do nothing to help lower the prices paid by Australian households and businesses.’

Government lets Big Gas export surplus gas to fulfil export contracts instead of supplying Australians

The Australian Government lets foreign owned gas companies export vast amounts of gas above and beyond what they need to fulfil their export contracts, while leaving Australians short.

I hate to belabour the point… well, actually, no I don’t. But to put some perspective into Senator #DavidPocock defeated motion to set up a Senate Committee to take a look at #GasExports, here is an interesting article from The Point (Australian Institute) that should have been tabled in the Senate along with the motion (can you do that in the Senate? I don’t know) talking about: ‘New analysis shows Japan is emerging as a major player in global gas trading, despite producing no liquefied natural gas of its own – and it’s all thanks to Australia.’

Japan’s rise as an LNG trader driven by resale of cheap Australian gas, reigniting calls for gas export tax

New analysis shows Japan is emerging as a major player in global gas trading, despite producing no liquefied natural gas of its own – and it’s all thanks to Australia.

Fined $58M — peanuts compared to profits to be had. They should’ve had their licence to mine revoked, taken away for a period no shorter than the time it takes for the trees to grow the size they were when felled illegally.

Australian govts really don’t give a shit about the environment, the ecosystems these support (include ours) and the harm to the planet they are encouraging. We’ll all suffer as a result with very few, if any, way out of the mess they’ve allowed #ExtractiveIndustries to get away with.

Alcoa hit with record fine for clearing world's only jarrah forests

US mining giant Alcoa is forced to pay $55 million after unlawfully clearing parts of a Western Australian native forest to mine bauxite.

Thinking aloud here…

If our govt keeps on subsidising #extractiveIndustries and more specifically #FossilFuelIndustries until the latter are driven out of business (being hopeful here) by renewables, how are we going to finance the clean up of the mess they’ve left behind?

1) end exractive industries subsidies (esp Fossil Fuels)
2) increase the PRRT to something meaningful like 80% (a la Denmark)
3) do it now!

Who benefits from the Arctic economic and security corridor? It depends who you ask | CBC News

Many northern leaders have been touting the Arctic economic and security corridor as a 'nation-building' project that will bring economic benefits to the two territories it straddles, but some community leaders are split on how much good will come out of it.
