Are Men Less Generous to a Smarter Woman? Evidence from a Dictator Game Experiment
https://arxiv.org/pdf/2012.04591

"…men are more generous to women than to men (see, e.g., also https://economicscience.net/publications/2015-jebo/ )

…men’s higher generosity towards
women may be due to paternalism and thus be reversed if women excel in those skills

…results are inconsistent with the hypothesis: male dictators give more to higher-IQ female receivers than to higher-IQ male receivers relative to the difference in giving between lower-IQ female and male receivers

…male dictators allocate more to attractive receivers, consistent with the so-called “beauty premium,” and male dictators with high IQs allocate less

…men are no less generous to women even when women excel in cognitive skills"

Deep Q-learning of prices in oligopolies: the number of competitors matters
https://www.sfb1283.uni-bielefeld.de/preprints/sfb24074.pdf
"…whereas in a duopoly setting DQNs might lead to prices very close to the monopoly level, the supra-competitive #pricing resulting from the interaction of these algorithms quickly vanishes as the number of firms increases. In particular, markets with at least five competitors robustly yield prices close to the Nash equilibrium level. These findings are robust concerning changes in the key parameters of the algorithm."

The result reminded me very much of this 20+ year-old #experimentalEconomics paper:
"Two are few and four are many: number effects in experimental oligopolies"
https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jebo.2002.10.002 or https://www.econstor.eu/bitstream/10419/78422/1/bgse12_2001.pdf
…and they cited it, too!

This series provides evidence of data manipulation in influential #Behavioural studies which all have one coauthor on common. This is not new (failure to replicate majority of major effects) and frankly not surprising. Data is usually collected by researchers with invested interests and the editors want surprising and strong effects. Calls to change this hardly go far enough and are usually ignored by those with impact.

[109] Data Falsificada (Part 1): "Clusterfake" - Data Colada

This is the introduction to a four-part series of posts detailing evidence of fraud in four academic papers co-authored by Harvard Business School Professor Francesca Gino. In 2021, we and a team of anonymous researchers examined a number of studies co-authored by Gino, because we had concerns that they contained fraudulent data. We discovered evidence...

#introduction

I'm a #PhD #researcher studying #economics (UGent; UGent @ Work, https://www.ugent.be/ugentatwork) and #sociology (VUB) with a background in organisational #psychology. My present work focuses on #discrimination; I will be defending my PhD in 2023.

As I see it now, most toots will be related to #science in general, and #LabourEconomics and #ExperimentalEconomics in particular.

A very recent example of my #research: "The state of #hiring #discrimination" (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.euroecorev.2022.104315).
