Sometimes reporting on neoreactionaries invests them with a dark sado-fascistic glamour, redolent of European aristocracy. Reading this article points in a different direction: it's more reminiscent of the twenties in the USA, with contemporary equivalents of the Florida land boom, Lothrop Stoddard, half- understood technology, swindlers, and semi-educated social climbers.
In addition, the whole "exit" vision, whether peddled by Dryden Brown, seasteaders, or Peter Thiel, is quintessentially American. See Albert O. Hirschman -- Exit, Voice, and Loyalty.
