Released this day in 1972, The Rolling Stones' "Exile On Main Street". My favorite Stones album.
I was in Boot Camp in the spring of 1972 in San Diego. My first liberty I went to the base library to hear some music. I needed a music fix having only heard marches played from the observation stand on the Grinder for the last 3 months. That Saturday afternoon I was treated to a masterpiece. They had the new Stones album. Even on that industrial strength mono record player & headphones provided by the Navy, one knew this was something special.
That was my first Navy Liberty so this album occupies a special place for me. Less than a week later I was playing my own copy on my old Dual 1219 turntable.
Happy "Exile On Main Street" Day!
A Stones ear worm on deck. I believe the time is near for some hot tea and jammies.

Last spin of the night.
One of those Stones albums for me that you absolutely have to play start to finish, which I haven’t done for a long while.
Although there are great individual songs on it, I prefer to take it in as the whole rock n roll masterpiece it is.
Rip this joint, everybody.

I've got no idea what the lyrics mean if anything. But a gorgeous melody with Keith's guitar put through a Leslie speaker giving it a wonderful tone. And the always great Nicky Hopkins on keyboard. #sixthstone or seventh?
