Today's run
Today's run
Go figure. Today's 14 km walk took 9:28 per. The old heart was beating at 98 bpm (a lightly light 65%). I might not be in immediate danger of dying after all.
It was 21.1°C with 71% humidity.
Carry on with your usual activities and thank you for reading.
Barking Barrage and back by roundabout routes.
5.2 miles (8.37km) in 2 hours 25 minutes so an average speed of 2.15 mph (3.46kph), only 80% of what Google claims the average walker would do.
It didn't rain. Legs ache.
New way for me as an old to get some aerobic exercise in: learn a hardcore song. Could be any fast music but this stuff is relatively simple. Just very physical. Spent the day getting "Stick Tight" by Terror down on bass. I can't just sit down or still during this.
For reference, my main instruments for many decades were cassette loops, microphone feedback, feedback loops, weird machines, cheap synths, and effects pedals so this is a crazy pivot for me.
Happy that my hands are almost back to normal! Left hand is good to go and the right hand, especially the thumb, is still causing a little pain. I’ll take it! 🎉
My Mother’s Day card finally arrived! My son felt awful about not sending it in time, so he stuck a gift certificate in it before mailing! I’ve saved almost every card he’s ever given me (37 years worth!) and it breaks me up to see them, so I don’t do it often ~ he’s mush like his Ma 🥰 🥺 💜
The odometer on my recumbent bike turned over 900 miles today! I started using it in June ‘25 and got serious about it in September to now. Considering that when I first started I could barely ride for more than 10 or 15 min., I think 900 is a nice number! ✨ 🚴♀️ 💪 🦵
Bonus: for anyone dealing with eczema, virgin coconut oil totally works! My worst area is my scalp and after leaving it on for 30 min. then washing, I’ve had no flakes or itching for 5 days now. Score! 💯
I hope everyone has a lovely evening and a pleasant week!
Exercise is more powerful than most people realize. 🌍🏃♂️
Recent research shows that regular physical activity doesn’t just improve fitness; it can also strengthen brain health, support long-term memory, and help protect the body against age-related decline. 🧠✨
It’s a reminder that movement is not just about appearance; it’s about survival, energy, and how well we age over time. 💪

Exercise may be training your brain just as much as your body. Researchers discovered that certain brain cells stay highly active even after a workout ends, and those lingering signals appear to help the body build endurance over time. In experiments with mice, blocking these brain cells prevented improvements in stamina, even when the animals still exercised normally.
Your body gets stronger, but your mind? That's where the real transformation happens. 🎾💪🧠

Walk finished. My neighbor decided she wanted to start the walk at my house and go to her house and then back to my house. There's less traffic on that section of road (only one car passed) and we finish with a big downhill. It must be a good walk because I closed my #exercise ring one and a half times. It's 1.6 miles round-trip. i'd like to be able to do this three or four times a week, but I'm just not motivated to do it on my own.
Gorgeous day today!
