06/05/2026 - Evening walk up Bennachie. I've not really been walking much away from the local patch this year so it was good to get away a bit farther and visit my favourite hill. We were at the top for sunset. I can't remember the last time I've visited this hill in the light. Nice to get a view of the surrounding countryside though I did miss the stars. We heard cuckoos on the way up.

05/05/2026 - A sunny evening walk after work. We came across climbing corydalis in flower on the back road and a tiny heather beetle. There's always interesting things to see on a slow walk.

30/04/2026 - Evening walk up and round the hill. The sunshine was lovely. I saw and picked up crossbill on the Merlin app for the first time on a walk from the house which was pretty magic. My favourite thing of the walk though was bird cherry in blossom by the roadside. The flowers are so nice. A happy making tree to come across this evening.

29/04/2026 - Roundabout midnight

A little nod to Thelonious as we walked past the roundabout on the big road at midnight on our way to find the night.

29/04/2026 - Evening walk after work on the quiet roads. The world round here is turning green again. The road will be in shade once the leaves open fully for the summer months. The sunshine today made everything look so nice.

28/04/2026 - A few things I met on my evening walk.

A chocolate mining bee enjoying the sunshine and a magpie moth caterpillar climbing up a lamp post.

27/04/2026 - Evening walk to the bottle bank. It was a bit grey out. The walk through the industrial estate normally cheers me up as it's good for wild flowers but there were humans about tonight. They are just great at turning anything nice to shit. Still this thyme-leaved speedwell by the roadside was nice to see.

Lusha wants to go to the river (down the track).

But to get there, we have to 🔆🔥Run The Gauntlet🔥🔆 (shadeless, still 20°C at 7pm).

It's all of 10mins (with a cool bath at the other end) but boy, am I happy to see some leaves here finally..

24/04/2026 - Evening walk to celebrate making it to the weekend. It's not been the best of weeks. It was a lovely twilight walk round the hill. Plenty of birds calling night to each other in the fading light. A couple of tawny owls flew overhead and lots of bats. My head was grateful for the calm and to be away from the house for a few hours.
