Majority-Black Town in Ohio Launches Armed Watch after Neo-#Nazi, #Klan Provocations

from #WorldOutlook
February 28, 2025

"On February 7, about a dozen masked men, some of them carrying AR-15 semi-automatic rifles, drove a U-Haul truck to a freeway overpass at Lincoln Heights’ edge. The men, dressed in black, shouted racist slurs and waived black flags with red swastikas on them. Enraged Lincoln Heights residents soon approached to counter protest. Local police who converged on the scene from the nearby town of #Evandale, across the highway, appeared cordial toward some of the white supremacists. As the crowd of Lincoln Heights residents swelled, the ultra rightists got back on their truck and drove off. Counter protesters burned the Nazi flags left behind."

Majority-Black Town in Ohio Launches Armed Watch after Neo-Nazi, Klan Provocations

This article reports on efforts by residents of Lincoln Heights, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio, to defend themselves against provocations by neo-Nazi thugs and Ku Klux Klansmen by organizing counter-mobilizations and an armed watch. Nearly 83% of the town’s approximately 3,000 residents are African American. Lincoln Heights was the first self-governing Black community to be founded north of the Mason-Dixon line, which divided the Union from the Confederate South during the U.S. civil war.

Went to three weekend markets, ten minutes drive from each other. Who needs a pub crawl when you can spend Sunday market hopping? #tasmania #launceston #evandale
Just finished writing my post about my big day out to Evandale, the area of my 1840s ancestors in Tasmania. https://suewyatt.edublogs.org/2023/01/12/my-big-day-out/ #genealogy #FamilyHistory #Tasmania #Evandale
My big day out | Oér the seas we go

Since Covid began I haven’t driven very far from home, only as far as Hobart, New Norfolk, Pontville and Orford. But today I headed to Evandale near Launceston. Most of my ancestors started their Tasmanian lives in that district. I visited The information centre at Evandale and spoke to a volunteer who organised for me to meet someone from the historical society. I wanted to check that the folders I am putting together were suitable for them to have. I drove down to Clarendon property to meet him and have a chat. Then I decided to take a drive to Nile, Deddington, English Town and Blessington all places where the ancestors lived in the 1840’s. Of course none of their houses were there. View from near English Town looking down the valley towards Deddington. I am going to write a post on my blog soon about my day out. #Evandale #Tasmania #Genealogy #Genealogists #FamilyHistory
While sorting out my Davey Dixon folder I am also getting rid of lots of paper and emails from family reunions back in 2003. Checking the information is on the database first, noting email addresses and phone numbers under notes section. This is feeling really good clearing out my untidy office area. #genealogy #FamilyHistory #Tasmania #Evandale
