Unser Ansprechpartner für Webcomics, Jan-Niklas Bersenkowitsch, stellt uns zum Jahresabschluss eine weitere Webcomic-Perle vor. Niklas: Vattu ist eine Geschichte über kulturellen Austausch und die Grausamkeiten des Imperialismus. Das fasst die ganze Geschichte gut zusammen, die Zeichner und Autor Evan Dahm von 2010 bis 2022 als Teil seines Overside – Kosmos erzählte. Die junge Vattu wird als Tribut an das sahtanische Imperium in eine komplexe Welt voller Intrigen und gewalttätiger Konflikte geworfen. Vattu ist eine figurenzentrierte Geschichte, in der genauso viel geredet wie gekämpft wird. Die Kämpfe finden dabei meistens durch Worte statt. Die Figuren versuchen sich über ihre Vorurteile zu arrangieren, um sich gegen das Imperium durchzusetzen. Nicht unbedingt gegen eine bestimmte Person, sondern gegen das gesamte System des Reiches, das selbst dann noch funktioniert, wenn der Imperator sterben sollte. Die Geschichte impliziert damit, dass selbst die mächtigste Galionsfigur nur ein weiteres Rad im Getriebe einer viel größeren Maschine ist. Der Einzelne kann nur wenig bewegen, nur gemeinsam lässt sich etwas ändern. Religion ist ein weiteres Thema. Anstatt das Göttliche nur als Batterie für Zaubersprüche …
