OFC people will rightfully point at #IridiumBurst ¹ and #Iridium #SBD² but those require #subscriptions³ & expensive, custom devices⁴ and whilst in turn one can send free #SMS to #Iridium devices, those are limited to like 50 and one can't use a nice #API to basically make them.

• Plus 270-1890 bytes (!!!) is not enough to do proper #E2EE with sufficiently-large keys in #PGP encryption!

Cuz a C-band mesh reflector & LNB is at least feasible to obtain and setup in most places that have no Internet.

Die aktuell mehr als 10.000 Satelliten, welche sich dafür in einem erdnahen Orbit bewegen, sind auf Verschleiß konzipiert. Das heißt sie haben nur eine begrenzte Lebensdauer und werden nach Ablauf dieser ersetzt. Jedes Jahr werden deshalb hunderte dieser Satelliten in der Erdatmosphäre verglühen. Sie bestehen aus seltenen Metallegierungen und viel Aluminium (ein eher reaktionsfreudiges Element). Die Anbieter wollen mit noch mehr Satelliten ihre Abdeckung verbessern, geplant seien mehr als 40.000 Satelliten im Orbit.
Untersuchungen, was die in die Atmosphäre eingebrachten Stoffe bewirken, scheint es bisher kaum zu geben. Immerhin gibt es erste Artikel, die am Rande auf das Problem eingehen.

Heard about Eutelsat OneWeb today (Problem 1: apparently this exists since 2012 and I never even heard of it) and tried to find out prices. That just seems impossible, Eutelsat sends you to partners, and everywhere it's just a "contact us for more info" form. How about FUCK YOU JUST SHOW ME A FUCKING PRICE.
