Il Tempo: Conti pubblici Italia: l'Ue rivaluta il deficit in autunno

Bruxelles, 8 mag.

Public accounts of Italy: The EU re-evaluates the deficit in the autumn.

Brussels, May 8 (Adnkronos) - The “autumn package” of the European semester provided to the European Commission “another opportunity to assess” Italy’s public finances, in order to evaluate the country’s participation in the excessive deficit procedure. This is explained by the EU executive’s Economic Spokesperson, Balazs Ujvari, in Brussels during the press briefing.
Economic Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis told the press that it is “theoretically possible” for Italy to exit the procedure this autumn, if 2025 data were to be revised downwards and certified by Eurostat.
As learned in Brussels, this is an eventuality that is considered quite unlikely, because the deficit, which amounted to 3.1% of GDP in 2025, should be revised and brought below 3%, but it cannot currently be considered impossible.
