Now that I got a #datalakehouse in a #Europeancloud I want more: some actual data to query, #pyspark and notebooks and #datavisualisation. In this blogpost I get Project Jupyter Hub running, I get open data from the #EuropeanParliament and try to visualise that data in #PowerBI. Getting the connection working turned out to be an expensive affair.

Na enige tijd weer een update: hoe gaat het met Cloud Kootwijk? En wat heeft dat met de verkiezingen te maken? tl;dr: Er zijn mensen op ministeries hard aan het schrijven over een Rijkscloud, maar er is geen geld. De politiek heeft er ondertussen ook geen aandacht voor, en de politieke partijen hebben hun succesvolle digitale kandidaten veelal op onverkiesbare plekken gezet. Als we niet opletten is er in de nieuwe Tweede Kamer ook geen aandacht meer voor Cloud Kootwijk.

Market forces have failed to deliver a truly European cloud, and businesses won’t naturally buy as yet unproven cloud services, even when adorned with a beautiful European 🇪🇺 flag, so for now nothing will happen.
