(3/4) 🌍 We found that most publications came from Central Europe (mainly the #EuropeanAlps) and Central Asia (#TibetanPlateau).
The research focus on each global mountain region differed: a research hub on alpine soil fauna is found in Central Europe, for #biocrusts also in Northern Europe, and for microbiota in Central Asia.
Most other mountain regions are still underrepresented, and more research should be conducted there to fill crucial knowledge gaps. 🏔️
NEW EUROPEAN RECORD 🎉
We were able to detect the Pygmy Shrews (Sorex minutus) in the high #alpine up to 3,300 m a.s.l. in #SouthTyrol #Italy, 780 metres higher than known before 🐁
New short note in #Hystrix (w/ #ChiaraPaniccia & @Eliag from https://bsky.app/profile/euracalpenv.bsky.social )

Earth's continents are slowly moving across the planet's surface due to plate tectonics, culminating in regions of crustal expansion and collision. In the latter case, high temperatures and pressures lead to the reworking of the crust, affecting its composition, as well as that of the underlying mantle. Furthermore, when two continental plates collide, distinct topographic features are produced, namely mountain ranges, which are surficial manifests of Earth's thickened crust.
#Alpine #SoilFauna season ended with an astonishing #hike close to #glacier.
As bonus we hiked up to the Hohe Wart (Guardia Alta, 3424m), which is on the crest towards the #Similaun (3606m)
In our samplings, we found something surprising 🥳 more details will be soon published in a short notice ✌️

What an adventure 🤠
We as #AlpSoil_Lab from #EuracResearch set up our highest pitfall traps yet at high #alpine sites at 3300m and 3100m.
These #GLORIA sites are quite steep and challenging to reach, but I can't wait to see the #soilfauna living up there 🔍

❄️🌿 The Glacier’s Green Series - 5/10
🌺 Silene Acaulis (Moss Campion)
ℹ️ Moss Campion is a small but tough plant found in the paraglacial zones of the Rocky Mountains and the European Alps. Its cushion-like growth helps it survive in windy, cold environments.
🔥 With glaciers melting, Moss Campion faces habitat loss and increased temperatures, threatening its survival.

Parallel to other #SoilEcology project, we at the #AlpSoil_Lab of #EuracResearch started with the #SnowBed project to sample #SoilMesofauna in #alpine environment.
Late this year but it is sunny up there!

This morning at the @worldbioforum 2024 in #Davos --> small excursion day with a team of #SoilBiodiversity researchers @EisenhauerLab, #AlpSoil_Lab, #ScheuLab)
We climbed up the Büelenhorn (2512m) and Büelenberg, a quite lonely mountain ridge above Davos.
A lot of nice biodiversity to see in the #alpine zone! (and sahara sand)

Big applause to @IngolfKuehn for his presentation of the #recolonation of #alpine plants on #glacier retreat zones in #limestone #mountains, in that case of the #Dachstein in #Salzburg (#Austria).
Interesting to hear that the recolonation is slower!
Wondering if "my mountains" - the #Dolomites - respond similarly 🤔
