After a few pretty and sunny winter days earlier this week, the weather returned to normal – dull and overcast. So I turned my photographic attention to birds instead of grey winter landscapes. Knowing that the local goshawks are currently preparing for the nesting season, I went looking for them today and yesterday. The male was renovating the nest they used two years ago. It does not mind people milling about, so I managed to take a few okayish photos of it. I caught a glimpse of the female yesterday, but despite being considerably larger than the male, it is very skittish and much harder to photograph. My aim is to get them both in the same photo for the first time this year.
Oh, I also spotted goldcrests and Eurasian treecreepers combing the branches and trunks for hibernating insects and spiders. The goldcrest is the smallest bird in Europe and a pain in the *** to photograph because it simply does not stay still at all :D The pics I got are nothing to write home about, but here's two of them anyway.
Overall, today was even worse. I photographed the male goshawk flying over me in the gloom, but pretty much nothing else. The goldcrests and treecreepers did not cooperate with me at all. Well, hopefully tomorrow will be better :)
