Do you guys remember "Couch Surfing"? In the 90s there was this web site where you could literaly find a couch to crash on or offer your own and there was no expectation of the exchange other than building a more connected world and nourishing connections. #EthicalTourism #CouchSurfing #tourism
I’m looking for like minded people who are also into people-to-people tourism ideas, tourism as a location of “exchange” and resistance, instead of tourism as a force of gentrificacion and tool of neocolonialism. if you have any thoughts , hit me up! #tourism #ethicalTourism
Our neighbours are arriving to our camp.

This image holds a beautiful, daily reality for us at Orinoco Eco Camp, and a deep question that stays with us.

We have started a small school here in the heart of the Orinoco Delta. It begins with the basics: reading, writing, numbers. The goal is simple: to offer these children tools that might open doors for their future.

But this step always brings a profound dilemma to mind. By introducing our ways of learning, are we enriching their lives, or are we unavoidably starting to change a way of life that has been sustained for generations? Their knowledge of the river, the forest, and their community is immense and invaluable—a different kind of education altogether.

I come from far away, from a world built on different principles. So I am constantly asking myself: where is the line between sharing opportunity and imposing change? Is it ethical to intervene, even with the best intentions?

We are moving forward with humility and respect, but the question remains open. What are your thoughts?

As #spring is here, it’s time to resume our own form of #EthicalTourism or #EcoToruism (day trips involving travel only by #bike and #PublicTransport#Trains, in this case). As I’m a #StructuralEngineer, I like seeing interesting #structures and so I picked #Portsmouth. Quite recently, it had a #tower built called the #SpinnakerTower as it resembles a #spinnaker #sail. It is by no means unique, nor is it the tallest, but it’s comfortably within a day trip’s distance of us.

It is astonishing that in 2025, people are still subjected to inhumane treatment. Tourists also have an ethical duty not to remain passive but to actively demand that agencies improve the treatment of Inca Trail porters, as well as other workers in the Peruvian tourism industry. Such advocacy will help pressure the industry and authorities to take action.

An ethical guide to hiking the Inca Trail

The fabled route leading to Machu Picchu is one of the world's most jaw-droppingly beautiful treks – but it's also plagued by controversies that travellers can avoid.

@SuitcaseinTow any kind of wild animal interaction is unethical and we do not offer it at all - if it is an orphanage then only the caretakers should interact with the animals and if they do allow visitors, for viewing only.

Ethical tourism supports/protects communities, wildlife and protected lands - you just being there should be enough to do that.

Reputable tourism businesses ensure that a portion of your stay’s revenue supports the community and conservation efforts.

Has anyone else had experiences with ethical wildlife encounters? I just visited Colin's Horseback SA, walking with lion cubs, and it got me thinking. It's so vital to support places that prioritize conservation over exploitation. What are your thoughts on balancing tourism with animal welfare?
