“Giochiamo per i titoli, non per la classifica“. Così in conferenza stampa Jannik Sinner ha risposto alle dichiarazioni di alcuni giorni fa di Carlos Alcaraz (“Perderò presto il numero uno nel ranking“). L’altoatesino è tornato sull’argomento dopo la vittoria contro Machac, precisando però che al momento la classifica è “secondaria” e che la priorità è la vittoria dei tornei, soprattutto i più prestigiosi: “Tra quelli che stanno arrivando, i più importanti sono Parigi e Wimbledon“, ha spiegato.
L’italiano è oggi il numero due al mondo, ma ha già la possibilità di riprendersi la vetta a Montecarlo (le combinazioni), se dovesse vincere il torneo, a prescindere dal risultato di Alcaraz, che ha battuto Etcheverry a fatica e affronterà Bublik ai quarti di finale: “Fa parte un po’ del gioco. Io credo che entrambi siamo consapevoli della nostra situazione. Gioco questo torneo, non gioco la prossima settimana. Non sto a rincorrere il numero 1 altrimenti giocherei anche la prossima settimana, farei di tutto e di più”, ha proseguito Jannik Sinner a proposito della vetta del ranking mondiale, al momento occupata dal rivale murciano.
Alcaraz qualche giorno fa si era anche detto “sorpreso” di vedere Sinner a Montecarlo: “Sinceramente mi ha sorpreso che Sinner sia venuto qui a giocare a Montecarlo dopo aver vinto a Indian Wells e Miami – aveva ammesso Alcaraz -. Però questo vuol dire che sta bene fisicamente e che è in grado di vincere dovunque. Spero di poterlo affrontare qui a Montecarlo, perché quest’anno non ci siamo ancora sfidati. Spero che ci riusciremo durante la stagione sulla terra rossa”, aveva dichiarato lo spagnolo.
Affermazione a cui Sinner ha risposto così: “Questo torneo lo gioco perché sono a casa e l’allenamento migliore è la partita. Sia io che Alcaraz giochiamo per i titoli, la classifica è secondaria in questo momento. I tornei più importanti che verranno sono Parigi e Wimbledon“, ha concluso l’altoatesino che dopo aver vinto a Miami e Indian Wells, cerca adesso la condizione migliore a Montecarlo, primo torneo sulla terra rossa dell’anno.
