In May of 2014, I traveled through New England and upstate New York. My youngest daughter graduated from college in Wheaton, Mass., and my youngest son graduated two days later from RIT. We flew up and rented a car, and did a LOT of driving over a two-week period. We were in #Rochester, and stopped to have lunch at a pleasant little restaurant overlooking the New York State Barge Canal (you may know it as the Erie Canal) in the town of Pittsford. Afterwards, I snapped this photo.

Happy 200th birthday, #ErieCanal !

For an hour last night, a huge crowd in our town gathered on the bank of the Hudson River near sunset, watching this innovative troupe of circus performers. We laughed and cheered and moved chairs back as the tide slowly rose, and it didn’t seem “crazy” at all compared to the actual crazy coming from our current deranged government.

The Flotsam River Circus performed at our town last night. Their stage was a raft in the Hudson River. The emcee explained the scene. “Climate change has made things very uncomfortable for humans, but one species thrives: the ugly mutant fish.”

Feel like mentioning for no particular reason that the #ErieCanal is one great big 350 mile long #bike path now. #nyc #bikeNYC Wonder who has biked that much this year. 🚲

Found the site where the Cohoes Mastodon was dug up! The falls are about 90 feet high, but a lot of the water has been diverted for a hydroelectric plant and the Barge Canal.

I knew the #ErieCanal ended near Albany and there were a lot of locks near the confluence of the Mohawk and Hudson Rivers, but in many visits to the area I'd never seen these falls!

Cohoes is about 8 miles north of Albany. The 922 bus runs every twenty minutes and takes about an hour. We bought tasty sandwiches in town!
